CCISD rated best large school district in Texas

Texas Education Agency grants appeal

LEAGUE CITY—“The Clear Creek Independent School District is the largest school district in Texas to receive a Recognized rating by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). In August, the TEA released statewide accountability ratings. At that time, CCISD was ranked as an Acceptable district versus Recognized. The lower designation was due to minor technicalities that were not tied to student performance but rather coding and calculation errors.

The TEA has changed the District’s rating.

“We are thrilled and thankful the TEA granted our appeal,” said Dr. Sandra Mossman, Superintendent of Schools. “The new designation accurately reflects the wonderful academic achievements made everyday in our classrooms. While it has become my slogan, it truly is a ‘Great Day in Clear Creek ISD’. I would like to applaud the CCISD staff, students, and community for raising the bar in education in the state of Texas.” CCISD is also the only school district in Texas to hold the Recognized rating ten out of eleven years.

With the accurate rating, CCISD has surpassed all other large school districts in the state when it comes to overall student performance. Large school districts are considered those with a student population over 25,000. The rating for Weber Elementary has also changed to Recognized.

The District’s appeal involved incorrect identification codes for three students who passed the Science portion of the TAKS test. Since the student identification codes at the time of TAKS testing did not match the students’ start-of-the-year identification codes, their scores were dismissed. Once corrected, these students moved the district rating to Recognized. Second, the TEA used a different methodology for including Hurricanes Katrina and Rita students in 2007 than in 2006; thus having an adverse affect on the rating.

“The accolades just keep growing for our district,” said Paula Tomasi, CCISD Board of Trustees President. “I am proud to serve the best school district in Texas. On behalf of the community, I congratulate the CCISD staff for an incredible year of achievements and look forward to additional milestones on the horizon.”

In addition to the Recognized district rating, CCISD is also home to 15 TEA Exemplary schools. The TEA appeal comes on the heels of Stewart Elementary being named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education and recent honors for Dr. Sandra Mossman. Mossman was one of the five state finalists for Superintendent of the Year. She was also named Superintendent of the Year by Region IV Education Service Center and the Texas Computer Education Association.
