AUSTIN–Gov. Rick Perry April 21 announced the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce has endorsed the Perry-Sharp school finance and property tax cut plan with a unanimous executive committee vote; the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) also added its voice to the long list of groups that support the plan.

Another Hispanic Endorsement

Gov. Rick Perry announced April 18 that the Texas Association of Mexican-American Chambers of Commerce (TAMACC), has joined the long list of organizations that have endorsed the Perry-Sharp property tax relief and school finance plan.

Perry also pointed out April 18 that Hispanic-owned businesses pump $40 billion into the Texas economy each year and provide jobs for millions of workers. Texas is now home to one in five Hispanic-owned businesses in America, and the number of Hispanic entrepreneurs is growing three times faster than the national average.

“I am pleased that the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, which speaks for 3,000 San Antonio- area businesses, has endorsed our plan to provide Texans $6 billion in property tax relief and a reliable source of funding for our schools,” Perry said. “Today the Chamber and LULAC join the chorus of organizations sending a clear message to the legislature: pass this fair, forward-looking tax plan because it provides immediate property tax relief and promotes continued economic growth into the future.”

In its statement of support, the San Antonio Chamber pointed out that the Perry-Sharp tax plan treats all sectors of the business community equitably.

“In my years in public service, I have never before seen a tax relief and reform plan with such overwhelming, bi-partisan support from business and civic communities across Texas. As more Texans speak out, our momentum is growing and the property tax relief Texans deserve is on the near horizon,” Perry said.
