Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott appoints first assistant

Government - Attorney General Greg Abbott pictureAUSTIN—Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott today named Judge Kent C. Sullivan First Assistant Attorney General. Judge Sullivan, who will begin on June 12, presently serves as presiding judge of the 80th Judicial District Court of Harris County.

"This appointment delivers the message that my office will employ talented and experienced people with proven ability to serve Texans well," said Attorney General Abbott. "Kent's judicial and civil litigation background will be of great value to the agency. He brings strong leadership, proven management experience and distinguished legal expertise to the people of Texas."

Prior to his three years on the bench, Judge Sullivan worked in private practice for 21 years and was a managing partner in several Houston law firms, primarily handling complex civil litigation. He began his legal career as a civil trial attorney with Butler & Binion in Houston.

Judge Sullivan's wealth of experience includes temporary service on the First Appellate District Court of Appeals and membership on the Supreme Court Advisory Committee. He has been active with the State Bar of Texas since 1999, serving on the Board of Directors and its Executive Committee. Judge Sullivan has also served on the board of directors of the Texas Center for the Judiciary.

Judge Sullivan graduated with distinction from the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He earned his law degree in 1982 at the University of Virginia School of Law.
