The Summer Institute takes place the first week of June and offers science teachers in the greater Houston area an opportunity to study topics such as geological formations, subsidence, paleontology, careers in energy and energy exploration. Participants hear from experts in the energy industry, who will present information and conduct demonstrations focusing on the science and mathematic connections to the various energy professions. In addition, a field trip to the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum will cap off the weeklong institute where the participants will tour an offshore drilling rig. The teachers will receive a variety of supplemental materials, including the Expanding Energy Education Curriculum, and conduct science investigations throughout the week. |
