Cornyn says passage of measure to ban tolls a victory for Texas drivers

Amendment will protect drivers from double taxation

Government - Senator Cornyn pictureAUSTIN—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn made the following statement Sept. 12 regarding passage of an amendment by Sen. Hutchison he co-sponsored to ban tolling on existing federal highways:

“Passage of this measure is a victory for Texas drivers. It’s unacceptable that Texans should face double taxation by paying tolls on existing federal roads. Passage of the amendment moves us one step closer to protecting drivers from these additional tolls. I’ll continue working with Sen. Hutchison and other members of the Texas congressional delegation to make sure Texas ’s highway infrastructure needs are met.”

Sen. Cornyn serves on the Armed Services, Judiciary and Budget Committees. In addition, he is Vice Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference and the Senate Select Committee on Ethics. He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee’s Immigration, Border Security and Refugees subcommittee and the Armed Services Committee’s Airland subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General, Texas Supreme Court Justice, and Bexar County District Judge.
